Essential first aid steps for common pet emergencies

Choking
  1. Stay calm and restrain your pet safely
  2. Open the mouth and look for visible objects
  3. Try to remove with tweezers (be careful not to push deeper)
  4. For small pets: Hold upside down and pat back
  5. For large pets: Lift hind legs, push on belly
  6. Rush to emergency vet immediately
Never put your fingers in a choking pet's mouth
Heat Stroke
  1. Move pet to cool, shaded area immediately
  2. Apply cool (not cold) water to paws and belly
  3. Offer small amounts of cool water to drink
  4. Use fan or air conditioning if available
  5. Monitor breathing and consciousness
  6. Contact vet immediately for further guidance
Common in Indian summers - prevent with shade and water
Wounds & Bleeding
  1. Apply direct pressure with clean cloth
  2. Elevate wounded area if possible
  3. Do not remove embedded objects
  4. Clean minor wounds with saline solution
  5. Apply antibiotic ointment if available
  6. Bandage lightly and seek veterinary care
Severe bleeding requires immediate emergency care
Poisoning
  1. Remove pet from source of poison
  2. Do NOT induce vomiting unless instructed by vet
  3. Keep sample of suspected poison
  4. Call poison control or emergency vet immediately
  5. Follow professional instructions exactly
  6. Monitor breathing and consciousness
Time is critical - contact professionals immediately
Seizures
  1. Keep calm and do NOT touch the pet
  2. Remove dangerous objects from around pet
  3. Note the time and duration of seizure
  4. Do not put anything in pet's mouth
  5. Speak softly and reassuringly
  6. Contact vet immediately after seizure stops
Seizures lasting over 5 minutes are critical emergencies
Fractures
  1. Keep pet calm and restrict movement
  2. Do not attempt to set the bone
  3. Support injured limb with towel or blanket
  4. Transport carefully on flat surface
  5. Apply ice pack wrapped in cloth
  6. Get to emergency vet as quickly as possible
